A couple nights ago, I received a text message from a good childhood friend of mine, BLACK DON saying that the tank is back!
How many of us remember when the Ice Cream Man had us all saying "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh" and "Bout it, Bout it"? I remember jamming it hard on my way to school in my pimped out mini-van with 15's in the back.
No Limit, which was founded in 1990 by Master P., sold over 75 million records. At various points, the label featured a number of major acts including Snoop Dogg, Mystikal, Soulja Slim, 504 Boyz, Silkk The Shocker and others.
Now, fast forward a decade and quite a bit has changed since those days. Master P has since grown up and has allowed for his son Romeo to take the reins...or shall I say control of the tank. Acting as CEO will be Romeo, his brother Valentino as VP, his Uncle Silk (the Shocker) as COO and my childhood friend Black Don as Senior VP of A&R.
This time around, Romeo will focus on the selling of digital media whereas his father's stake to claim was by selling cd's from the truck of his car.
He goes on to say, "He [Master P.] taught me the marketing of this business and I took the time out to complete my education at USC where I studied technology and business," Romeo continued. "I feel that I have the best of both worlds. I’m a hard worker with a billion dollars worth of knowledge and many resources. My goal is to build a digital hub where artists can become entrepreneurs and make instant revenue off of their music. My resources and I have created a technology to stop online piracy.”
Funny, I remember seeing Romeo as a little kid tagging along his dad when I was in high school. Maybe we'll be seeing this young fella on Forbes real soon.
I'm excited to see where this goes and I wish the No Limit family much success!
